MHIMA will dedicate efforts and resources to serving members by increasing, promoting, and perpetuating the visibility of the health information management profession through education, communication and advocacy.

To achieve our mission and vision MHIMA focuses on:

  • Health Care Policy

  • Membership/Professional Development

  • Membership Services

  • Marketing

MHIMA is committed to serving its membership by increasing, promoting and perpetuating the visibility of its members by the following means:

Education to provide education opportunities by which members may achieve and sustain professional excellence.

Communication to disseminate pertinent information to its members by maintaining effective databases and communication linkages

Advocacy to influence issues which impact the collection and use of health information at the state and/or national level.

Our members work in a myriad of settings. The most common work setting is an acute care hospital, but our members also function in long term care, mental health, insurance companies, physician office practices, veterinary clinics, prison systems, ambulatory clinics, consulting practices, legal practices, accounting firms, etc.

Our skill sets include managerial and technical skill. We are trained to retrieve, retain and analyze data. Confidentiality, integrity and security of the data we create and maintain is of prime concern to us. Our members are considered the authority in coded disease and procedure data throughout the nation.
