I wanted to let you know how honored I am to serve as your MoHIMA president for the 2018 – 2019 year. Along with my fellow board members, I will do my very best to serve you and our ever changing Health Information management profession. It is truly a pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of individuals.
Allow me to introduce you to the 2018 – 2019 Board Members
Deanna Petersen, President Elect; Julie Dooling, Past President; Jamie Addler, 1st Year Education Director; Clark Chaffin, 2nd Year Education Director; Steven Wilson, Director of Public Relations; Lian Collins, Director of Professional Development; Carri Compton, 1st Year Delegate; Jane DeSpiegelaere-Wagner, 2nd Year Delegate; and Kay Piper, Coding Roundtable Chair.
We are all aware of how our profession has changed in the last few years, particularly with the advancement of technology. We will likely see this trend continue. Although challenging – we must evaluate ourselves, our purpose and be willing to take on new roles and stand firm on what we believe in. I worked for an organization where inscribed on the granite walls were the words “In all things there is opportunity…”. That very statement has continued to be my mantra, and I also believe it applies to our ever-changing profession. We must believe there is opportunity in everything we do, and keep that mindset for the future.
Speaking of the future, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of the students across the state who are seeking a career in the Health Information profession. We not only hope to inspire, inform and engage you along the career path you have selected, but also look forward to learning from you as well. We have some wonderful educational opportunities planned for the coming year that we hope you will be able to attend. In this dynamic and energizing field, we all are truly life-long learners.
As your president for the next year, I want to ensure that I exceed the expectations of all of our valued members. Whatever the subject matter – patient engagement, privacy and/or security, leadership, information governance, data analytics or HIM reimagined – I, or any board member, are here to listen and to represent our profession to the fullest. We are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead, and are so pleased that you are a part of that!
