Lesions. How can things so small cause such difficulty for coding professionals? This presentation will help by illustrating the coding differences between biopsies and removals both from a CPT and an ICD-10-PCS perspective. Lesion removal methods will be explored. Discussion will include the difference that must be taken into consideration when the lesion removal is into tissue deeper than the skin. The presentation will conclude with information on when it is appropriate to also code a repair procedure when a lesion is removed, along with detail on appropriate coding for tissue repairs.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the program, attendees should be able to:
- Recognize the different types of skin biopsies
- Identify various methods of lesion removal
- Review the criteria for various removal methods
- Differentiate between excisions of Integumentary vs. Musculoskeletal System

June and Jean will present an overview of ICD-11 to include a discussion of US progress through The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) workgroups and the Request For Information. The progress other countries are making on adoption of the new code set will also be discussed. They will introduce the audience to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) the international standard to describe and measure health and disability in ICD-11. This session will include a review of the basic ICD-11 coding guidelines, browser and coding tools.
Objectives:

Making Sense of Psychiatric Diagnostic Codes

This presentation will review how psychiatrists determine diagnoses for patients with a variety of mental health conditions and cover common codes used in 1) Mood Disorder, 2) Anxiety Disorders, 3) Psychotic Disorders, and 4) Substance Use Disorders and will help coders assist with more accurate billing.

- Review DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for commonly diagnosed psychiatric conditions
- Understand how physicians differ in terms of their application of DSM-5 coding
- Differentiate between DSM-5 coding and ICD-10 coding terminology

Throughout the presentation, including case studies, relevant Coding Clinic and Official Coding Guideline information will be shared. Case studies will be used to illustrate proper coding, identify opportunities for queries, and provide examples of the reimbursement impact of psychiatric coding.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the presentation, attendees will be able to:
- Identify ICD-10-CM codes related to psychiatric illnesses
- Apply Official Coding Guidelines and Coding Clinic information relevant to psychiatric conditions
- Communicate the impact that appropriate psychiatric diagnosis coding can have on reimbursement
- Assign correct ICD-10-CM codes for case studies presented
- Explain the appropriate use of queries for psychiatric illnesses

This program meets the AHIMA CE Guidelines for 6 hours of continuing education. AHIMA CEUs are also accepted by the AAPC! Check eligibility on the AAPC website. CE credits will also apply to the recorded version if unable to attend the in-person or live streamed event.

After the event, CEUs will be uploaded into your OHIMA profile (My CEUs under the Member Menu). There, within your profile, you can download or save a report of your CEUs.
